Background Information: History
Personality:
Much of what we see early in our adventures from Estinien can be traced back to his unfortunate childhood. As a child of twelve years, his life was forever changed as the great wyrm, Nidhogg, and his brood destroyed Ferndale and, with that, Estinien's family and home. This one event was the source of what drove the dragoon for the foreseeable future, his quest to become Azure Dragoon and to rid his world of dragons fueled by one thing: his desire for revenge. During this time, Estinien's behavior and personality was shaped by his drive for revenge and his possession of Nidhogg's eye, his negative emotions easily overwhelming him during moments of weakness as a result of the eye constantly drawing on his strength. At one point, he turned his lance on his mentor, an action influenced by Nidhogg's eye, borne from the eye showing him the truth of what happened when he lost his family twenty years prior. During this portion of his life, Estinien kept mainly to himself, finding companionship to be nothing but a distraction.
During his travels with Alphinaud, Ysayle, and the Warrior of Light, we see Estinien gradually shed his cold exterior, opening up to his companions as they search for a way to end the Dragonsong War. He comes to see Alphinaud and Ysayle both as comrades, though he continues to bicker with Ysayle throughout the duration of their friendship. He is harsh on Alphinaud, treating him as one may treat an annoying little brother, though his care for the boy is easy to see. Despite the gradual softening we see around his rough edges, Estinien never loses his rude, blunt manner of speech.
Estinien's disdain toward those in power becomes very clear during his interactions concerning the leadership in Ishgard, never hiding how he felt about them to those he's close with. When word of the dragon's reawakening reached Estinien, he stole the Eye of Nidhogg from the Holy See in an attempt to lure the dragon away from Ishgard, an action that drew the ire of those in power. He sees how the Holy See truly feels about the citizens of Ishgard through the inaction of its leadership and he does what he can in order to stop them, caring more for Ishgard and her people than the zealous religious leaders in power. His care is shown through his actions rather than his words, spending his time as Azure Dragoon, while in possession of Nidhogg's eye, drawing the wyrm away from the city and turning its focus on him and him alone rather than Ishgard.
Upon Nidhogg's death, Estinien comes to realize that, for the majority of his life, he felt little else above his thirst for vengeance, his entire personality having been shaped by that one desire. Having such an intimate knowledge of the wyrm, he understands that this thirst of his made him no better than the wyrm and his brood, who acted as they did due to hatred and vengeance in their own hearts over the death of one of their own. The one thing that sets Estinien apart from the dragons he held such hatred for is his companions, his comrades who stood by him and supported him, never allowing him to sink as far as Nidhogg did. He is able to finally bury this long-held hatred for dragons once Nidhogg is truly dead, his eyes destroyed, and begins to forge new friendships with man and dragon alike. It is at this point that Estinien pledges his lance to those in need, standing alongside the Scions on the battlefield for the good of Eorzea and of their world.
As he gradually takes a step back from traveling by himself and joining the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, his rude manner of speech and standoffishness never changes. While his companions are gathered, Estinien is clearly seen distancing himself, preferring to stand outside of the group, arms crossed, disinterested look on his face. He only joins conversation if necessary, rarely opening himself up in front of anybody, Alphinaud and the Warrior of Light being the exceptions. However, despite his gruff, hardened exterior, it's clear through his actions alongside the Scions, that he has a heart for his fellow man, fighting for what he believes in and putting himself in danger in order to protect those who can't protect themselves.

Abilities & Inventory:
Having risen through the ranks of the Temple Knights of Ishgard as a member of the Order of the Knights Dragoon, Estinien proved himself to be a formidable soldier and eventually became Ishgard's Azure Dragoon. The mantle of Azure Dragoon is one given to renowned dragoons of Ishgard, chosen to command Nidhogg's eye and keep the wyrm and his brood from razing their homeland. After the conclusion of the Dragonsong War, Estinien gave up the title of Azure Dragoon and gave his skills to the fight for Eorzea, traveling wherever his lance was needed and eventually joining the Scions.
Inventory:
(descriptions copied from FFXIV Wiki)
Drachen Armor: A dragoon's armor. They say that in Ishgard, the value of a thing is measured in rumors. By that reckoning, the smithing secrets of drachen armor is valuable indeed. Some say the tint of the mythril comes from being cooked in dragon blood. Others whisper that the suit is unnaturally light, that drowning knights who should have been dragged under by its weight sped to shore like eels...
Gae Bolg: A spear only granted to those elected by the Holy See to serve Ishgard as a dragoon. Chosen for its light weight and great strength, the dragon bone used to craft the spear is reaped from fields of battle by the kin of the glorious dead. No outlander shall know how such a material is worked, but some say that the bone is kept supple in smoking vats of dragon blood. The Holy See bestowed the legendary spear Gae Bolg upon Estinien after he was awarded the title of Azure Dragoon.
Estinien will also have a change of clothes to his casual wear with him as he had that with him in Old Sharlayan.
Suitability & Plans:
Estinien will be able to adapt to life in Reverein. Used to traveling and going wherever his lance is needed, during times of both war and relative peace, being uprooted once again and dumped in a new world will not be too out of the ordinary. He may have a bit of an issue dealing with everything that comes along with a dream world as that is a bit outside of anything he's experienced thus far in his own universe, but he can adapt well and will eventually learn how to use dreamotion and deal with any ill effects from the nightmares experienced here.
For a time, it will be getting used to life in a land where he cannot up and leave and travel as he has grown accustomed to. He will have comrades in Aymeric, Alisaie, and G'raha Tia that will, no doubt, help him should he need it (though he will never ask for it).
